Education
There are two universities operating in the city of Klaipėda: Klaipėda University and LCC International University. These institutions offer programs that reflect the unique character of Lithuania, and particularly the area of Klaipėda. Klaipėda University has faculties of Natural Science, Mathematics, Humanities, Marine Engineering, Arts, Pedagogy, Social Sciences and Health Sciences. LCC International University provides studies in business, languages, and theology, with classes being taught in English.
Klaipėda University has nearly 10,000 students (in 2007, there were 9314 students), 600 professors, docents and lecturers, 7 faculties (Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences), 4 institutes (Institute of Continuing Studies, Maritime Institute, Coastal Research and Planning Institute, Regional policy and planning institute), an English language centre, a library, a botanical garden, and a publishing house.
LCC International University was founded in 1991 at the request of the Lithuanian Ministry of Education. The Republic of Lithuania recognizes LCC as a Bachelor's Degree granting university. There were 600 (50% from Lithuania, 50% International) students admitted to LCC in 2007-2008. Studies are in the English language.
In the city, there are more than 10 colleges and vocational schools. There are also several schools for foreign children including the private institution Universa Via as well as the Klaipėda H. Zudermanas Secondary School for Lithuanian and German students.
