Science

There are over 20 institutions and centres in the Klaipėda region that carry out essential applied research in various sectors such as botany, the environment and health. An example of this is the Lithuanian Integrated Marine Science, Studies and Business Centre (Baltic Valley). It was established to promote an economy built on maritime knowledge, and helps facilitate a closer interrelationship between marine research, education, and business. There are also plans to create a modern marine research and technology centre, along with an expansion of the Klaipėda Science and Technology Park by 2012. The city of Klaipėda is prepared to invest around 52 million EUR into these and other science and education infrastructure projects.

The Klaipėda Science and Technology Park is located on the Klaipėda University campus, and officially opened January 16, 2004. The Science and Technology Park offers 3275 m² of floor space and 1799.43 m² for rent. It also suggests Incubator Services, which are reserved for individuals with innovative ideas for small to medium-sized businesses or medium to high technologies. Klaipeda Science and Technology Park supplies each participant with a fully equipped workspace and other support services. These services are offered free of charge in order to encourage innovations and business development.
