EU Commission approved funding for the project Motorways of the Seas “KLAIPEDA-KARLSHAMN”
On the 23rd of September 2009 EU Commission approved the financing of the activities connected with EU financial support for the projects of common interest „Motorways of the seas in the territory of the Baltic Sea. Klaipėda-Karlshamn line" (2008-EU-21015-P) for the implementation of Trans-European Networks (TEN-T) (Nr. BE2 1-2462).
Investments within the project Motorways of the Seas „Klaipeda-Karlshamn" will increase the transportation volumes in the Baltic Sea region - more cargo will be transported by sea, there will be less traffic and congestions on roads as well as less air pollution and noise.
These investments will make a catalyzing effect on regional economics, i.e. the economic benefit will be significantly greater than the sum of investments. The planned social and economic influence of this project will be seen via increased port capacities - and will allow saving the funds of regional companies and their time. The attractiveness of the region for the companies intending to start business there will also increase. This Project will significantly improve regional communication and their attainability.
