Investments will improve the quality of freight and passenger handling services at Klaipeda State Seaport
For the improvement of freight and passenger handling infrastructure at Klaipeda State Seaport the sum of 722.9 million LTL is planned to be invested by 2015. From the aforesaid sum, 473.8 million LTL will be from the support of EU Cohesion Fund. These investments will be made for the implementation of 14 EU supported State projects, the list of which was approved by Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Nine of the mentioned projects are intended for the connection of transport corridor IXB with Klaipeda Seaport, i.e. for the development of Klaipeda railway node. By the year 2015 JSC “Lithuanian Railways” will implement projects of reconstruction and development of the Klaipeda, Rimkai and Draugystė railway stations and their marshalling yards, as well as the Pauostis marshalling yard. The total value of the project reaches 456.3 million LTL, the sum of 326 million LTL is allocated from EU funding.
Good technical standards of Klaipeda railway node infrastructure will enable to ensure safe and uninterrupted freight transportation to/from Klaipeda Seaport. It is very important regarding the aspect of integration to the EU transport network, the implementation of technical interoperability requirements and delivery of high quality transport services.
Klaipeda State Seaport Authority will implement 4 projects designed for the construction of approach roads to the multimodal freight terminals located at the Southern part of the port. The cost of these works is approximately 94 million LTL, the sum of 56.5 million LTL is allocated from EU funding.
Implementation of infrastructure in passenger and cargo terminals of Klaipeda Seaport is among the greatest planned projects. The implementation of the 172.6 million LTL value project will include the construction of quays at almost 1 km length territory. 91.3 million LTL will be allocated from EU support. The modern passenger and cargo terminal with extended infrastructure will enable the delivery of services for more considerable amounts of ships, vehicles and passengers. Better conditions will be provided for business. Passenger handling will be improved as well.
Implementation of these projects will enable the modernisation of Klaipeda State Seaport as an inseparable component of the international transport corridor IXB. The aforesaid projects are included into the list of State significance projects. The list corresponds to the measure “Development of passenger and cargo handling infrastructure at Klaipeda State Seaport”.
