Klaipėda FEZ Companies Increased Their Exports

This year, companies operating in the Klaipėda Free Economic Zone (FEZ) have increased their export. Aggregate export indicators of 15 companies operating in the FEZ have grown by 13 % during 9 months of the present year (in comparison with the same period in 2008).

"It's happy news for us that in the background of the economic recession the Klaipėda FEZ companies are able to increase their export volumes. It only proves once more the effectiveness of doing business in the free economic zone. We have two clear leaders in the FEZ - the private limited liability companies (UAB) "Mestilla" and "Orion Global PET". Their aggregate contribution to the FEZ export cauldron is about 88 %", - said Mr. Povilas Vasiliauskas, Chairperson of the Klaipėda FEZ Management Company.

During 9 months of the current year the sales income of the Klaipėda FEZ companies has reached EUR 248 million, whereof export - EUR 231 million. The share of export in all the sales constituted 93 %.

Mr. Arūnas Zubas, General Director of bio-fuel producer "Mestilla", which has been named as the export leader in the FEZ, believes that this branch of industry in Lithuania has an enormous potential to develop - to create added value and to generate export income. "In 2009, the factory worked in full capacity. We export even 96 % of all output. In 2010 "Mestilla" is planning to export up to 90 % of all output and to reach a turnover of around EUR 96 million", - said Mr. A. Zubas.

Since 2002 the Klaipėda FEZ has attracted 20 companies, 15 of which are operating at the present moment. Most of them export their production. The aggregate turnover of the Klaipėda FEZ companies from the beginning of operation in the zone is over EUR 1.4 billion, whereof 90 % is accounted for by export.

Namely for export achievements, this year the Klaipėda Free Economic Zone has been awarded the Lithuanian Export Prize - a traditional prize of the Lithuanian Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Crafts to business leaders.
