Klaipedos Smelte acquired a third mobile harbor crane

Following the plan of company's development Klaipedos Smelte signed a contract with Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GMBH regarding purchase of a mobile harbor crane Liebherr LHM 500. The new crane will be delivered and assembled on company's berths in the middle of October this year.

With lifting capacity of 104 tons and an outreach of 51 meter, Liebherr LHM 500 will serve feeder vessels of 3.000-4.000 TEU capacity at existing berths No. 82-89. If demanded, the crane will also cope with larger containerships. At the next stage of company's development, after completion of on-going construction at berths No. 90-96 designed for heavier equipment, Klaipedos Smelte intends to purchase Ship-to-Shore cranes capable to serve containerships of 6.000-9.000 TEU capacity.

Together with the third crane, two twin-lift spreaders produced by Bromma company have been purchased. Equipped with such type of a spreader, the crane is capable to lift two 20' containers simultaneously. As a result, the entire process of vessel operation is speeded.

Apart from container handling, the recent purchase will strengthen company's position in the market of heavy-lift and project cargo.
