Passenger and cargo terminal major railway viaduct is under reconstruction

Klaipeda started reconstruction of the railway viaduct over the Varnėnų street - it will become an important Klaipeda passenger and freight terminal serving infrastructure.

After the reconstruction railway viaduct will be 85 meters in length and will have two roads. It is also planned to extend the existing bridge and build a new one next to it. Train traffic will take place in two directions. About kilometer of railway will be reconstructed with the renewal of rail infrastructure. Restored infrastructure will ensure convenient connections to the Klaipeda passenger and cargo terminal, as well as significantly improve access to the port for freight companies operating in the territory.

Total project value - 10.3 million LTL. The European Regional Development Fund will fund 85 per cent of the sum, the remainder will be paid by the state budget and JC "Lithuanian Railways". Reconstruction work is to end in mid-2011.

This year is also planned to begin passenger and freight terminal infrastructure construction.
