Location
Klaipeda - is an ice-free port with a favourable geographical position (55o 43' North latitude, 21o 07' East longitude) on the coast of the Baltic Sea and Curonian Lagoon, within close distance to other Baltic sea ports: Kaliningrad (Russia) and Riga (Latvia).
Klaipėda County is situated on the western part of the country between Scandinavia and Central Europe and it’s the only region of the Republic of Lithuania bordering the Baltic Sea shore. The County borders Latvia in the north, and the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation in the south with Telšiai and Tauragė counties in Lithuania. The County comprises the territories of Klaipėda, Palanga and Neringa City Municipalities, as well as Šilutė, Kretinga, Klaipėda and Skuodas District Municipalities.
Railway
Klaipėda offers very attractive and effective possibilities for business in terms of delivering cargo to the place of its destination in a much shorter time and at a reduced tariff: 2 cargo trains - Mercury (container train) and Viking (container and container train) - start their journey in Klaipėda toward the Near East.
• Mercury carries loaded and empty universal or specialized containers from Klaipėda/Kaliningrad - Minsk - Moscow and back (50 hours).• Viking runs between Klaipėda and Odessa and in 48 hours connects the Baltic and Black seas. This train has a simplified customs clearance procedure and carries goods at lower prices, in a safer and more environmentally friendly way.
• Also, Klaipėda is a part of the Baltic Transit project that connects the ports of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Kaliningrad with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Annually, 50 million tones of cargo are being transported in Lithuania by rail.
A high-speed railway line, Rail Baltic (Warsaw-Kaunas-Riga-Tallinn), is to be constructed by 2016.
Airport
The Palanga International Airport is located 35 km from Klaipėda, and provides access to a variety of European cities via connecting flights. In 2007, the runway was modernized, an extended passenger terminal was opened, and infrastructure modifications were made in order to comply with the Shengen Treaty requirements.

Roads
Lithuania is known as a transit country and has a well-developed road infrastructure. Motorwy Aa1 connects the three biggest cities: Klaipėda-Kaunas-Vilnius (the capital) easily reaches 6 European motorways (Trans-European network) that cross Lithuania. Annually, more than 45 million tones of cargo are being transported by land.
The reconstruction of Jaku ring has already started. It is planned to build 610 meters long pier Kaunas-Klaipeda, Kaunas and Klaipeda-direction, the updated viaduct tunnel, equipped with lighting. The tunnel will also be fitted with lights, upgraded electrical and communication lines, water supply and the introduction of gas pipeline. New Jaku ring will be the longest pier in Lithuania. The Treaty provides that the work must be done before November of 2010.
