Transport and logistics

Transport and logistics sectors together create almost 13 % of total Lithuanias GDP. Income from this sector reached almost 5 billion EUR in 2007. Lithuania offers the lowest logistics costs in the region, accounting for just 8% of manufacturing companies’ turnover, compared to 12% in Latvia,15% in Poland and Estonia, and up to as much as 20% in the North of Germany.

Klaipėda - the third largest city of Lithuania – is a big Lithuanian transport hub connecting sea, land, and rail routes from East to West. The third greatest supply of modern warehousing facilities is in Klaipeda (84,000 sqm, growth – 48,5). During the first half of 2008, the average rent price of new warehouses in Klaipeda was 5 – 5.2 EUR/sqm.

Following cargo handling results of January-November 2008, Klaipėda port has reached the biggest turnover in its history – 27,67 mln. t, i. e. by 1,1 percent more than the total turnover of the whole last year or by 11,1 percent more than during January-November 2007.
